Facebook's New Emoticons Will Make You :-)

Facebook is testing emoticons in the status updates on user profiles, allowing members to add anything from a smiley face to an ice cream cone to messages.

The social network — which has rolled out the feature to select profiles — offers a variety of emoticons to choose from. Listed next to the small icons for adding a picture or a graphic location, a smiley face image now resides with the following prompt: "News: Share how you're feeling or what you're doing."

Clicking on the icon reveals various categories, such as drinking, eating, watching and doing.

Grabbing a bite to eat with friends? Post an update and add a pizza emoticon. At the movies? Search for the title and it will add a film board image. This connects your conversation to a show, movie, artist and so on, and possibly opens up the door for more ad revenue for the company in the future.

Although emoticons can be added to updates, it's not possible to respond with one in the comments sections just yet.

Facebook told Mashable the feature will be coming to more profiles in the U.S. soon. What do you think of the addition of emoticons to the site — are you in favor or against? Let us know in the comments.

GE GAS18PSJSS Top Freezer Refrigerator with Autofill Pitcher review:

GE GAS18PSJSS Top Freezer Refrigerator with Autofill Pitcher review: Get automatic water pitcher fill-ups from this top-freezer fridge The Good The Autofill Pitcher is a unique feature that works well and seems practical for daily use -- a rarity with top freezers. Despite the plain-looking design, the fridge feels sturdy and well-constructed. The Bad Storage space is cramped to begin with, let alone with the Autofill Pitcher taking up space on the top shelf. Cooling performance was also pretty unexceptional. The Bottom Line The Autofill Pitcher is a borderline ingenious fridge feature, but the GAS18PSJSS isn't well-rounded enough to be a top pick. for price and more click here

Your next iPhone might be able to protect itself from thieves

Your next iPhone might be able to protect itself from thieves Apple is considering ways to empower the iPhone with active protections after being stolen, according to a new patent application. What if your iPhone could help actively protect itself, even after it's been stolen? That potential idea was considered in a new patent application Apple filed Thursday with the US Patent & Trademark Office. According to the application, which AppleInsider wrote about, a future iPhone may -- when triggered by the right circumstances -- start documenting an alleged thief's fingerprints through the Touch ID home button, picture and videos from the cameras and even voice from the microphone. Such capabilities, while perhaps legally questionable, could go much further than Apple's current lock screen and Find My iPhone app. An Apple representative didn't respond to a request for comment. Intel Compute Stick review

Intel Compute Stick review ntel's Compute Stick, an entire PC crammed into an HDMI stick that fits in the palm of your hand, is nothing short of a landmark in computing. Fifty years of Moore's Law, which states that the number of transistors that can be crammed onto an integrated circuit doubles every two years, has resulted in a little plastic stick that plugs into any HDMI-equipped TV or computer display, transforming it into a full-fledged Windows 8.1 PC. Just don't get any crazy ideas about gaming on it — or, indeed, doing any intensive amount of multitasking — and the Compute Stick isn't half bad. I tested out the $150 Windows 8.1 version with a 1.3GHz Intel Atom quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There's a microSD card slot on one side for additional storage expansion, and a full-sized USB 2.0 port and Micro USB port on the other for power. The Ubuntu 14.04 LTS OS model is physically identical — a black stick w...
